RemekTek is totally catholik in its taste for brands, both hardware and OS. However this also means that we recognise what is good, and since 2011 we have been using Apple Mac computers. We find the OS X platform to be more inherently stable than Windows. Consequently we are documenting some of our favourite Apps, that we use in-house.

If you have some great App to tell us about, please use our Contact page.

Windows to Mac Migration

HERE is a really good level headed writeup.

Wiping iOS before Selling

Before selling your iPad or iPhone, you must go through some steps. Here is a good reference page.

Mavericks Install USB

Format a USB flash drive that's at least 8GB, as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and keep the default name as "Untitled." Make sure that you don't have another volume with the same name. If you do, unmount the other volume or rename it temporarily. You can also name the USB flash drive to something other than "Untitled," but just make sure to change the command in Step 3 to reflect the correct name.

Open a terminal window and enter the following command:

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ --nointeraction

NetUse Traffic Monitor

NetUse Traffic Monitor is a good SNMPT monitor/charting program for the Mac platform. However some modems report with the Up/Down values in reverse. (e.g. Netgear's Cable Modem). In this case run the following in a Mac Terminal window and then restart Net Use Traffic Monitor:

defaults write net.dewdropstudios.NetUse inverseUsage -boolean yes

Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

Note: It is possible that the SMC could encounter an issue that may cause unusual system behavior typically related to the symptoms described below. In some cases, resetting the SMC may be the only correct method to resolve the issue, however, an SMC reset should only be attempted after all other standard troubleshooting has been performed.
