XP SP3 on HP AMD based PCs

You must NOT apply SP3 on AMD PCs, especially ones from HP, because they load Intel specific drivers which when updated will cause a reboot loop. Here is the LINK to fix yhis pesky problem.


Windows Boot Problems

Windows XP keeps rebooting.

Boot to your XP CD and enter recovery console. Use it to log into your current system and then enter the following commands one at a time answering Y when prompted: FIXBOOT then FIXMBR

When done remove the CD and reboot.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters

If the superfetch and prefetch features are disabled, their registry value should be 0, please check if EnablePrefetcher and EnableSuperfetch are both set to 0.

AV Uninstallers & VMWare+Vipre

Here is a LINK at Sunbelt Software that collects most of the AV uninstaller tools.

And for fixing VMWare: Add an exception for "System". To do this, open VIPRE.

  • Go to the Firewall tab. Click View Settings.
  • Click the Exceptions button.
  • Click Add. In the Path: field enter "System" without quotes then click OK. This should allow bridged connections and ICS to work correctly.
