RemekTek

Electronic backup services offered by RemekTek work across the Internet. This is sometimes referred to as "Cloud" based backup, however the target location may be at RemekTek's premises (as an option) on Australian soil and in case of a disaster, can be accessed and delivered to the customer's location on a physical hard drive as opposed to having to be downloaded via the web.

RemekTek offers alternative strategies, which have different pricing and features. See the "Choosing" section to assist in deciding the best option for your needs.

Point-to-Point

  1. This requires the customer to have a Windows file server or a Netgear ReadyNAS storage device (with Intel cpu), which can be supplied by RemekTek.
Cost of the NAS depends on number and size of the hard disks required.
  2. There is a one time software license required for ReadyNAS Replicate, at a cost of $385, plus a set-up cost of $132, totaling $517
  3. There is a monthy charge for storing the customer data on RemekTek's server, of $2 per GB per month
  4. Data recovery is charged at RemekTek's consulting rates on an hourly basis for work performed.

Wide Area Network

This offering is leveraging the services of our partner Egnyte. It provides very high quality full cloud service, located inthe USA. We have been testing this service and speed of access matches most local servers. The customer service from Egnyte is 24x7, which is better than most local services which are usually only for business hours or daylight hours.

Major advantages of Egnyte services include:
(Many of these features are NOT offered by competing cloud based backup offerings!)

  1. Hosted data files can be accessed by any web connected computer (Windows, Apple Mac, or Linux) as well as Smart Phone/Tablets, such as Apple's iPhone or iPad or many Android device. This means that customer executive can be attending a meeting anywhere in the world, and provided that they have internet access, they could pull up any report or file on their iPad at very short notice!
  2. Collaborative access with file locking. If a person is editing a file, it can be locked to prevent another employee also editing the same file. They can still have Read Only access in the mean time.
  3. PC can access cloud based files as a "Remote LAN drive"
  4. PC can have designated folder as "Personal Local Cloud" which is continuously synced to the cloud server
  5. Minimum 150GB storage - can be expanded to Tera Bytes, if required
  6. Full file versioning
  7. Uploads can be by sync, or ftp

No local mirror option

  1. There is a one time a set-up cost of $132
  2. There is a monthly charge for partner service, Egnyte which provides 150GB storage (extra space available at additional cost), of $30 per month.
This includes 4 user IDs, each with up to 2 PCs

Optional

  1. A Netgear ReadyNAS storage device (with Intel cpu), which can be supplied by RemekTek, can be installed and act as local file server at the customer's location, which then syncs to Egnyte, for an additional charge of $30 per month (total $60 per month).
Cost of the NAS depends on number and size of the hard disks required.

Local Mirror Option

This provides a local mirrored NAS anywhere in the world, (typically at an off-site location in Australia, such as RemekTek's premises)

  1. Requires a 2nd ReadyNAS device to be supplied/purchased
  2. Egnyte licenses required: $30 per month for starter system + 2x $30 for the two NAS boxes, giving $90 per month
  3. If the customer owned, second NAS is to be hosted by RemekTek, there is a charge of $15 per month payable to RemekTek
  4. Data recovery is charged at RemekTek's consulting rates on an hourly basis for work performed.

Choosing a Service

In ascending cost sequence:

  1. For lowest cost, choose Wide Area Network with no NAS .
This has very small up front cost, will provide remote cloud based access, but no local mirror or central file storage.
Can be deployed to backup local PCs without need for NAS capital purchase.
  2. Choose Point to Point if cloud access is not required, but want Australian off-site mirror data store.
  3. Choose Wide Area Network with local Mirror, if you require the most comprehensive backup and features.
